Bio

Hello there!  My name is Hedge Lee.  I’m the Youth Pastor at Blessed International Fellowship in Anaheim, California.  This is my lovely blog.  Glad you dropped by!  Here is some info about me:

Hedge is my nickname for a much more complicated version of my legal name.  My legal name is ridiculous and sounds nothing like my Korean name, and I suffer in all sorts of ways because of it.  My Korean name is actually more closely pronounced and spelled “Hwae Jae”, but my parents spelled it the way they did on the advice of my aunt and uncle, who for some reason, could not spell when I was born. The story behind my middle name JENNY is that people kept making fun of my real name at school so much that one day at recess I just couldn’t handle it.  I shoved some boy who was driving me crazy into a basketball pole, effectively breaking his arm.  From that moment, my parents decided that they would choose an English name for me so I don’t end up putting people in the hospital on a regular basis.  However, they chose “Jenny”.  Not “Jennifer”, but Jenny.  Yes, that’s how it’s legally written. Sigh.

I was born and raised in the Midwest all my life.  Specifically, I lived in the south suburbs of Chicago almost all of my life and I loved it.  I love to travel and all of that too, but no matter where I go, I still think Chicago is my home, even if you can experience all 4 seasons in one week and it really IS windy.  I currently live in California, where the weather is ridiculously nice year round.  I moved here in October of 2011 and it’s been fabulous.  I definitely miss Chicago a lot though.

You can check out my “Family” page for more info, but I have been blessed with a ridiculously awesome family that I’m very proud of.  Growing up so cheesily doing family things together may have been somewhat torturous during my teenage rebellious years, but I account for the good parts of me, the parts with godly character and stuff, to the love of my family, particularly my parents and grandparents.  I thank God for that everyday.

I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago for undergrad and graduated with a degree in psychology.  I also triple minored in history, law & society, and criminal justice because I am a nerd.  I went to the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration (SSA) and received my Masters in Social Administration, which is also a Masters of Social Work (MSW equivalent), which is very cool.  I am currently a licensed pastor at Blessed International Fellowship and I love youth ministry.  I think youth are weird, crazy, and they keep me feeling young.  Ok, seriously though, I have an intense passion to see the youth of this generation rise up as God’s end time army and I love building community.  Church should be fun, full of fellowship, and full of love.

Currently I live in the OC (Orange County).  I no longer tutor a bunch of kids or serve at Korean United Methodist Church of South Suburban Chicago (SSC) and R180 Ministries on a weekly basis, but they have a very special place in my heart.  I believe I will always be a part of them even if I’m thousands of miles away.  So, you’ll probably read about them a lot in my blog, as well as Blessed Youth, bc they consume my whole life =)

Random Facts About Me:

  • I only wear black or blue t-shirts, rarely any other colors.
  • My idea of a salad is when it’s served as an appetizer to steak or some other form of meat. Twas not meant to be a full meal.
  • I really like Perrier (lime flavor), coconut water (pineapple flavor), & Martinelli’s sparkling apple cider
  • I own a 2012 Honda Fit.  His name is Franklin Frederick Fit.
  • I used to be a ballerina.  Seriously.  I also did Taekwondo.  That’s more believable.
